    “Saksham” is a joint initiative of UNICEF, SBC (Social and Behaviour Change Communication Collective) and Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD), Government of Maharashtra.

    The objective of the Saksham initiative

    To empower women and children.

    To bring about positive changes in the areas of health, nutrition, education, child rights and women empowerment.

    To provide equal opportunities to women and children by bringing about behavioural change in the society.

    To reach out to beneficiaries of government schemes and help them to utilize them properly.

    What is Saksham Kit?

    The concept of “Saksham Kit” is used under this initiative. This kit includes —

    Information booklets, guidebooks

    Health and nutrition materials

    Useful items for women and children

    IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials for public awareness

    Tools necessary for bringing about change in society


    In short, the Saksham Kit is a set of information materials, nutrition tools and training tools required for the empowerment of women and children, for raising awareness about their health, education and rights and for skill development.

    • Booklets and handbooks on health, nutrition, and education

    • Guidebooks about government schemes and entitlements

    • Awareness flipbooks, charts, and posters

    • Leaflets on child rights and women’s rights

    2. Health & Nutrition Materials

    • Balanced diet chart

    • Guidebooks for pregnant and lactating women

    • Immunization schedule cards for children

    • Growth monitoring tools

    3. Training & Communication Tools

    • Flashcards and pictorial guides

    • Training videos on projector/pen drive

    • Interactive educational games

    • Puzzles and learning tools for children

    4. Women Empowerment & Skill Development Materials

    • Booklets on starting small-scale businesses

    • Literature on Self-Help Group (SHG) management

    • Mobile/online app guides for digital literacy

    • Hygiene and health kit (sanitary napkins, soap, masks, etc.)
