Shri Kshetra Padmalaya
Shri Kshetra Padmalaya, one of the famous Ganapati temples in India, is known for its historical significance dating back to the Mahabharata era. Located just 11 kilometers away from Erandol village in Jalgaon district, this temple is widely recognized across the country. The temple is situated in a lush forest area, with a nearby lake that is home to various colorful lotus flowers, making it a picturesque and serene location for devotees.
Padmalaya is one of the Sade-Tin Pithas (three and a half seats) of Lord Ganesha. It is considered one of the two-and-a-half Ganapati Peeths in India and is honored as an ‘Ardha Peeth’ (half seat). The temple houses two self-manifested (Swayambhu) Ganesh idols. Both idols, one with a right trunk and the other with a left trunk, are enshrined on the same pedestal, making it the only temple in the world with such an arrangement.
Historical Significance of the Temple:
According to legend, during the Mahabharata period, when the Pandavas were in exile, they would come to bathe in the lake here. Another tale from the Pandava era mentions the battle between Bhima and Bakasura. After Bhima defeated Bakasura, he struck a massive blow on a rock, creating a deep pit at the site, known as Bhima Kund. White marks resembling rice grains are still found in the Bhima Kund area. It is also said that there is an underground path connecting the Pandav Wada in Erandol to Shri Kshetra Padmalaya.
